What is deleted
Your identity is removed from the society's records and cannot be recovered:
- Your name, phone number and email, the name becomes “Deleted User” and the phone number is replaced with a placeholder that cannot be dialled or matched back to you
- Your profile photo
- Your notification history and the push tokens that reached your phone
- Your entry codes and standing gate lists, the people you had told the guard to let in without asking
- Documents you had uploaded (a scanned cheque, a tenancy agreement) are removed from storage
You are signed out everywhere and the account can no longer be used to sign in.
What your society keeps, and why
Some records survive with your name taken out of them. This is not us keeping your data: it is your society keeping its own books, which it is legally required to do:
- Invoices, receipts and ledger entries. A maintenance bill that was raised and paid is part of the society's accounts. Removing it would leave the books short by that amount and the society unable to file or audit them. They stay, with the payer anonymised.
- Gate and visitor records, for as long as your society's retention policy keeps them, with your name removed.
Nothing kept can identify you. It is the money, not the person.
How long it takes
A request raised in the app is passed to your society's management committee, who have 30 days to act on it. That is the period the Digital Personal Data Protection Act allows them. Most are handled sooner. You will be told when it is done.
If your society does not answer within 30 days, write to us and we will chase it.
Before you delete
If you owe your society money, deleting your account does not cancel the bill: the debt is between you and the society, and the invoice survives with your flat on it rather than your name. Settle up first if you can, or you may hear from your committee afterwards about a bill you can no longer see.
You can download a copy of your data first, from the same Privacy screen in the app.
